RDAP

RDAP:
Registration Data Access Protocol

The Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) is a protocol used to access registration data for domain names and IP addresses in a more secure and structured manner compared to its predecessor, the WHOIS protocol. RDAP provides a standardized way to retrieve information about domain name registrations, including details such as the registrant’s contact information, registration dates, and domain status. One of its key features is the ability to provide data in a machine-readable format, which facilitates automated access and integration with other systems.

In addition to improving accessibility, RDAP enhances privacy and security by supporting authentication and authorization mechanisms. This means that access to certain information can be restricted based on user credentials, ensuring that sensitive data is only available to authorized parties. By adopting RDAP, organizations can better manage and protect their registration data while complying with privacy regulations, making it a vital tool in the realm of cybersecurity and domain management.

[…] offers several advantages over WHOIS including support for internationalization, secure access to data, authoritative service discovery, and the ability to provide differentiated access to registration data. RDAP was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force.
